Bringing meaning into our lives

People who live the most meaningful lives are those who connect to themselves, connect with others, the world and nature. Such people lead a purposeful life. They attract success as on each day; they plan, set goals and make things happen. Such people are inspired people having a sense of purpose and destiny.

They know that they have a reason to be born to play their assigned role. They inspire themselves and others and do not feel that they have to prove anything to this world to justify their merit or existence. They are on a learning spree, reading books, associating with the learned and rendering a positive feeling to others.

Sometimes, we have to reach beyond our natural abilities, stretch ourselves to a breaking point to come out of the dark tunnel. We see in the media, very ordinary people from poor families getting selected in the Indian Central Services without help, guidance or even a library to refer. That is sheer will power to succeed. They reach much beyond their potential. They reach their inner depths to find courage and perserverance, to face challenges and meet them head-on.

To make a sense out of life the two most significant actions that bring meaning into our lives are serving others and striving to reach our own potential. To serve others, we have to improve ourselves and become self reliant. Remember, that all of us are here for a purpose. We act and produce results as we see ourselves.

Our behaviour contribute significantly to prove why we are the way we are? I have seen a person, the seventh child in a family, born to parents totally uneducaed. Without any facility, motivation or encouragement, he left his village, went to a nearby town, did a part-time job while being educated and ultimately became a lawyer, and judge. Not forgetting his roots, he lifted his whole family, gave his sisters and brothers education, remained a bachelor and said on his death bed.

“Life is not a game but a battlefield. I am happy that I won the battle of want and poverty and could do something to improve a family.” Mind you, the family improves the community and the community the nation and universe.

Today, many young people wish to imitate movie stars, rock stars and spend their time in unprofitable activities at restaurants and cinema houses. They don’t realise that they can be better than other people, which could make them unique. The whole purpose of individuality is excellence, individualism means working at the top of ones capacity. It is a just transforming from a spectator to a participant. Many people have dreams and desires. For example, a sum-dweller wants to own a cycle, motorcycle or a car. He has to work for it. He may not reach what he desired for but can reach halfway. My Boss used to say: “Take small steps in life and break into a big step. Remember, that failure itself is not bad but duplicating failure is disastrous. It is bravery and courage to endure, to get up and fight one more round. Havn’t we seen people trying again and again and succeeding in the end?”

Clement Stone, the motivational writer and speaker writes: “Whenever you lose enthusiasm and desire, the problem surfaces. Keep the flames of ambition constantly burning and that is success unlimited.” All of us can have a new way of thinking, a new attitude and obtain new results, if only we work for it. Power is not essential to get any work done. It is virtousity that makes a man or woman effective. The saying is “you can’t change the fruit without changing the root”. The future is not a mystery. What happens to us in the future is determined by what we are doing right now. Many people dream but don’t act; others act without a dream. All human lives could have a happy ending, if only we focus on some positive attainable destination in life. The rewards of success are joy, peace and happiness. Just go on seeing the light to obliterate darkness.

In the perishable petals of the flower, there resides more life and spirit than in the dead granite boulder that has defied the wear and tear of thousands of years. Martin Luther King (Jr) said: “Deny the soul what it needs and our mind becomes sick slowly, inevitably and we break to pieces unless we repair it. Well, repair simply means to be aware and perform.”
For example, who are the explorers? They are men alive to opportunity and adventure. Men afraid to challenge uncertainty and seek new horizons see or discover nothing. So go ahead and find a meaning! Grant that right and license to explore life; surely you will discover something.
